First Semester Introductions (ESE)

Many students are sitting in a room. There is a presentation with information about the ESE.

Dear freshmen and anyone else interested,

Welcome to the StuRa’s ESE page. Here you’ll find some information and links to the events offered by your student councils. The most important questions about the ESE are answered in our ESE FAQ.

ESE stands for First Semester Introductions .

This term covers a wide range of events organized by the faculties and student councils to help you, as first-year students, get started with your studies. But in addition to informational and welcome events, there’s plenty of fun to be had. There’s just about everything from a leisurely hike in Saxon Switzerland to a pub crawl through Neustadt. You can see exactly what’s on offer on your faculty student council’s website.

Events for Your Degree Program

Some of the events for your degree program are mandatory, so you should definitely attend those. That’s where groups are formed, important announcements are made, and materials are distributed. But the other events are also worth attending to meet new people in your program and to get an overview of the campus and your studies. For example, there are campus tours or events on how to build a class schedule.

On the ESE page of TU Dresden, you’ll find a link to the relevant events for your degree program. Some of the pages also list the dates for the faculty student council events, but not all of them do. That’s why we’ve also compiled a list of the student councils’ event pages.

Cross-Program Events

In addition to program-specific events, there are also events for all new students at TU Dresden.

Enrollment Ceremony

The largest of these is the enrollment ceremony on October 8, 2026. The event begins at 3:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall Center. Before that, starting at 11:00 a.m., there will be an information fair where the Student Council (StuRa), TU counseling centers, and other organizations will introduce themselves and be happy to answer questions. You can find more information on the TU website.

ESE Club Tour of Dresden’s Student Clubs

Dresden is considered one of the cities with the most vibrant student club scene. Almost all of these small clubs are located on campus and are run almost exclusively by students. That’s why the motto there is: by students, for students. And so you’ll know right from the start where you can meet up with your new and old friends after a busy day at school, there’s the ESE Club Tour of Dresden’s student clubs. You’ll also have the chance to meet lots of new people from other majors.

Many faculty student councils have organized small groups that visit the clubs. If your faculty student council hasn’t organized anything like this, you can also just stop by one of the student clubs and meet new people.

You can find the addresses of the student clubs at the VDSC.
