The Student Council enables every student to use local public transport (bus, tram, underground, suburban railway and regional trains) at a reduced price. As a rule, you have already paid for your ticket when you re-register, so you can use it during the semester.
The Semesterticket is issued as an electronic barcode. During a ticket inspection, this barcode is valid as a travel document together with an identity document. For example, you can export the barcode to the Apple Wallet or Google Wallet apps and thus have it available offline. It can also be downloaded as a .pkpass file, which can be imported into other apps (e.g. Passandroid).
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is a full Deutschlandticket. It is valid everywhere the Deutschlandticket is valid. This means you are mobile throughout Germany in local and regional transport: on buses, trams, ferries and on regional trains.
You can find the exact fare regulations on validity on the website of the Deutschlandtarifverbund.
According to the regulations, the Deutschlandticket is also valid on a few long-distance trains, such as between Dresden and Chemnitz (as of 2026). Some connections abroad are also included, e.g. the ferry to Hřensko in Bohemian Switzerland. We have written up how to travel to neighbouring countries at low cost in a separate guide.
This does not apply to any other satellite locations of TUD Dresden University of Technology (for example students of the MEDiC degree program)!
In principle, all students are liable to pay the contribution and must therefore pay for the Deutschlandticket at the reduced price.
A refund is possible in the following cases:
If you hold a severely disabled person's pass with one of the valid marks aG, Bl, TBl, H
If you hold a severely disabled person's pass with one of the valid marks G, GI, each with a valid

Refund of the Semesterticket
In all other cases, such as holding a Bahncard 100, NO refund is possible.
If you are a student on leave of absence, a guest auditor (Nebenhörer*in) or a distance learning student, you can purchase the ticket subsequently.
If you are a visiting student or do not have student status, unfortunately you cannot purchase it subsequently.
If you present a printout anyway, you will be treated like a passenger without a ticket and will receive an increased transport fee (EBE) of at least €60.
However, you can reduce the amount of the EBE, see below.
Affected students can contact the ServiceCenterStudium (preferably in person during service hours). There is a solution for students who cannot use the ticket via barcode.
Please contact the ServiceCenterStudium. They can issue proof that your Deutschlandsemesterticket was valid in terms of location and time, which can be submitted to the transport company.
Instead of the €60, you then only have to pay the transport company's processing fee. As a rule, this is a fee of €7.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket does not include the carriage of bicycles or dogs. A bicycle ticket or a valid ticket for the dog must be purchased.
If you need to take a bicycle, a dog or another person with you within the area of the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe, you can voluntarily book an additional ticket to the Deutschlandticket through DVB. Please note their terms and conditions, in particular the cancellation conditions.
In some transport associations (e.g. MDV in the Leipzig area), taking a bicycle along is free of charge.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket does not include the carriage of additional persons.
If you need to take another person with you within the VVO, you can voluntarily book an additional ticket to the Deutschlandticket through DVB. Please note their terms and conditions, in particular the cancellation conditions.
Taking children under the age of 6 along is free of charge.
The VVO's punctuality and connection guarantee does not apply to the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
